Spring before the frost

Apparently it's going to get cold again. But right now it's quite lovely. So, only a small disaster to find that No. 2 has out grown his school shoes mid-season and today I found myself buying a pair of 'sandal/trainers'. This is every fashion industry buff's dream and every mum's nightmare. They're a sort of clumpy but sporty shoe in dark brown colours to make them look more schoolish than trainers but with big holes down the side to make them more summer-ish. Neither here nor there. The sort of shoe that seem designed to be useful for about 4 weeks of our yearly weather. But actually for the last few weeks we've had weather perfect for this shoe: dry, sunny, cold ... but oh so hot in school. So I was feeling pretty chuffed with myself as they were a bit of a rushed purchase, but still also quite a bargain. And here was the blossom, and the blue sky in the fading sunlight today on the way home from swimming to make me feel we're at that point in the year when they'd defintely get him through to proper croc-time summer. On our way home for him to try the shoes on... which didn't fit. Tra la la! As long as we get teaming rain and/or snow again before the spring's really here I'll feel fine about it!
