Rubbish art

What a joy to pick up that old gold spray can again. I am beginning to believe that anything you spray gold is beautiful. Saw a display in a Westfield shop recently with mounted antlers sprayed gold that looked awesome. But surely there's something a little bit dodgy about all that gold. A little bit too Midas. Esepecailly in a time of austerity. Or maybe that's why it's so attractive... fake gold is the only gold most of us can get these days (thanks Gordon Brown!).

Somehow managed not to take a picture of the final piece tonight, but this was the spray-culmination of a big clearance of rubbish outside the church for our 'away day at home'. The kids joined in, donning plastic gloves, and enjoying climbing out of windows to do the litter picking. Some of us cleaned it, mounted it like a giant mobile then painted some of it gold. Wanted to think about the transformation that comes while we journey through Lent - and through Life - being honed and gilded as we let the Light in.
